I know it's tedious unveiling the Cleemenfluegen one little strip at a time but I want to give her one last day to make me take it down. She must be really busy with school or something. Anyway, I'm moving this pic up - mostly because I'm sure everyone's tired of seeing Karl on Ice. Nothing of note happening this week. I saw the movie RENT last night - great stage production which did not translate well onto film.
I'm in a post-Olympic slump. I went to Torino House (the Mangia & Bevi at King and Ontario) for the last night and to celebrate Jane Roos' award. On Monday she was all over the news, no doubt working hard to play on the momentum created by Canada's spectacular medal haul. I was watching it at the gym without a walkman so can't be sure.

The guys in Florida want me to send them the whole photo, right now. They're stuck at the Pines for two months and they have to see it today? No chance, mis pequeños rehenes. Anyway, I have to give LC the opportunity to stop this...you'll just have to check back here in a few days.
I'll still send my photoshop stuff for entertainment. Just keep in mind that there are photos of every one of you guys all over the internet, especially on the CKC site. No word from Clem yet. So...here's what I'm going to do. Most of you have already heard the story but few have seen the photo. Every day, I will put a little piece of PG Clem onto this post. If she emails me to stop, I'll remove them. If she doesn't...well, she should have checked my blog more often.

I sent Clem this address last night. She checked it out while she was sitting alone in the library and says she peed her pants laughing at the photo of skater Karl...other students are noticing her more now just not necessarily in a good way. Hey Clem, I know that I keep apologizing for the "Now Appearing at PG" photo but can I post it here? No one will see it...really.

This has been a pretty quiet week. Our union had planned a wildcat strike for tomorrow (no cougar jokes please) but called it off a few minutes ago. That messes up my whole day. I was going to go to the Auto Show and Body Worlds 2.

More pics from my son - Jupiter and Saturn. His telescope is amazing. I've never had a chance to look through it because he got it while at university and since they moved to Toronto, I only seem to be at their place during the day. Anyway, on jupiter, you can see the giant red spot just going out of view at the left, top to middle cloud band. The colour's off on the Saturn pic but you can see the shadow of the planet on the rings on the backside.

P.B. & S.M tied it up this weekend at the Old Mill. The chapel was packed - S.R.O.
The bride was giddy and gorgeous and her declaration of "Absolutely - I will!" when the priest asked if she would take P. as her husband made everyone laugh. During the speeches, she put on quite an impressive display of linguistics - thanking family and friends in Hungarian. A.B. confirmed that it was perfect! Is that what she was doing in Korea?? Learning Hungarian?
There were lots of people I haven't seen in awhile, J.S. flew home for the weekend, all of V.O.C. were there. So nice to see C.S. who left the women's team to finish her law studies. She's still got 18 months to go but says she can sue someone for $10,000 or less if needed.

S.F. told me he recently won a singing contest at the "Raid the North" adventure race with his rendition of Hendrix' "Fire". I'm not going to lie, he's a good singer but I wouldn't think his interpretation of Jimi would be award winning. Then he told me that while he was singing, his gf L. got up and danced in some skimpy panties that said "Raid the South". Hmmm. Hands up those who think Scott did not win based on his talents...
It was also great to see the godfather of dragon boat and his lady - FH and JV. J was on her way to Singapore and arranged things so she could be in T.O. for the wedding before flying out of YYZ.
I wish I had gotten photos of everyone but my camera batteries tanked. Don't be fooled - even rechargable batteries stop charging after awhile. Fortunately, T-bone got some great shots of the wedding – click here to check them out…

Anyway, congratulations S. & P. - it was a great party for a wonderful couple!

Last night, the roommate and I watched the pairs event in figure skating and now all he talks about is the Russian skater, Tatiana Totmianina. He's not much of a threat to Maxim Marinin since he's about as graceful as a baby giraffe on a unicycle but I'm pretty sure I saw one of those sparkly outfits in with his dry cleaning the other day.
Live the dream Karl...and if you can't live it, at least dress the part.

I haven't done anything for days....I sit down to watch one Olympic event and suddenly it's 3 hours later. Yay for Beckie Scott and Sara Renner! The team sprint is one of most exciting events to watch and I'm glad they've added it to the Olympics. Did you see those Canadian girls givin' 'er on the uphills?
I received my winter Olympic charms from Can Fund this morning. They're a little smaller than I thought which means they might look good on a charm bracelet or chain. I wish I had ordered more. Jane says they'll be coming out with something really unique for the summer olympics too.
At the moment Canada is SIXTH in the medal standings - Go Canada!

We celebrated M.R.'s birthday last night at the Drake Hotel. Dinner was Winterlicious and, while it’s always great to see the fabulous Dish, it was especially wonderful to see S.N. and S.R.. It’s been far too long and we’re planning many more evenings. I anticipate getting into some scrapes with these 3 – S.N. and S.R. will talk our way into it and M.R. will talk our way out. I will be the older, more responsible individual, holding coats, purses and jewellery when the trouble starts.
While we were in Berlin, our Fat Tire Bike tour guide had this amazing courier-style bag with "BERLIN" across the flap. He told us where we could buy it but we never made it to the store. I was very excited when I found them online because it's the perfect memento of our gold-medal experience in Germany! They even give you an alternate flap and M.R.'s is a map of the city.


Earlier this week, my favourite nerd (my son) sent me this picture he took of Saturn. He has an outrageous, Hubble-type telescope and camera attachment – this is a real photo…

See You In....Court

Jane Roos, the woman who put the B. brothers and VanK into Roots ads and started the "See You In…" fund for Canadian athletes, has had a run-in with the COC. You can read how they misappropriated her trademarks in the Ottawa Citizen.
Jane, always a big supporter of paddlers, was at C.B.’s retirement party with her husband and gorgeous baby girl. I hadn’t been on their website since the summer Olympics so decided to go see what’s up. Nothing about their pending court case but they’re selling a great silver zipper charm as a fundraiser (just $40). I’ve purchased a couple (so you may get one as a gift if you have a winter birthday) and hope they have something similar for the summer games. If you have any doubt about the benefits of Jane's fund, ask one of our Olympians - 11 of Canada's 12 medalists in Greece applied for and received grants from the fund prior to the 2004 games.

So strange. I'd been paddling for several years before my Dad handed me an old teardrop paddle and told me he did sprint canoeing as a kid in Winnipeg. Today my brother sends me a photo of my Grandfather (2nd from left) with a C4. The photo's dated 1920, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

In one of those freak occurrences of sibling telepathy, my sister, brother and I each started going through old family photos in the same week. Laurel has pictures of us as kids, Graham has Dad's family and I have Mom's. Suddeny, there's a flurry of scanned images being passed back and forth.
My grandfather is standing 3rd from the left in this photo of an elk hunt in The Pas.
Graham would have been 3 months old when this photo of the 3 sisters was taken at Mrs. Ellis'. I suspect we girls were sent to the neighbour's to give Mom a break.

The women of Wolseley dressed to represent various nations. So funny - Aunt Isa (2nd from the right) is Canada. Someone had written all the names and corresponding countries on the back as well as the comment, "How do you like Isa's beaver?"

Arrowroot cookies and Nutella...the Rootella cookie sandwich. I am a genius.

Well, so much for that. Ben was the big winner again last night and I hope he takes good care of my money back at Carleton. So the question now is - does he come to Missy to train or to augment his bank account?
Later, the Mullet Man kicked myin PGA golf . I packed it in after that but not before I added some smooth new moves to my avatar. Karl requested that she do more jumping up and down since she's well-endowed. He also made some suggestions about possible wardrobe changes which I thought was just weird. What is it with boys and animated women? The subject of adolescent crushes on cartoons came up at work one day and the guys were like, "What? No way, that's just twisted" and I said, not even with like Daphne on Scooby-doo or Jessica Rabbit? All together they went, "Oh yeah but they're HOT". ...right. my mistake...

I had breakfast at Helen's with L.Tuts, the 2 juniors and auntie K.T. on Sunday morning. H.T. chats up a storm now and "okey-dokey" is the favourite phrase for both kids. We were checking out J.T.'s hockey cards and when I asked him to tell me Lindros' stats, H.T. corrected me, "It's ERIC!". I guess Eric's got a fan!

Last night was Carrie Lightbound-Buday's retirement party at the Cue. Hard to think of someone retiring from anything at the age of 25...except in sport. A lot of people were there from all over to celebrate Carrie's career with the National Canoe/Kayak team.
It was especially great to see everyone from the band. Former V.O.C. frontman, Kris Sziraki tells me he's playing bass for a new band at work. If he told me the band name, I've forgotten it (which has nothing to do with the kamikazes we were drinking since those came much later in the evening). Anyway, I hope to hear a recording sometime soon because if Kris says they're good (which he does) they must be!
So the party was great, everyone looked fabulous and I think Carrie is excited about the prospect of what's on the horizon. Congrats on all those years of great racing!
There was an attempt to get a poker game going after the bar but it didn't quite get off the ground. Carrie, Maclean Alyson C-W (who drove up from Ottawa) decided to call it a night and that left the 3 guys who only played one game. Apparently young Ben R. took everyone's cash. Eve, Katy and I ended the night at Gino's Pizza gossiping and eating dried-up, overheated slices.

At the moment, I'm listening to Erasure, waiting for a poker game to come together. I can hear AKJ, Atti and Ben at the door and I am ready to go rake in the chips...

Okay, I've resisted blogging for awhile because I though it might be just an extended version of the dreaded "Christmas Letter". However, I've enjoyed being able to keep up with the Sunfish's adventures in B.C. so I'm giving it a shot.
I decided to go with our band's name for the title even though we don't actually play together anymore. The original members are spread around the GTA but a least we're all on one continent again. More on the band later. I think the legal department of Bu-Bound & Associates has to get signed waivers from the rest of the guys before I can upload some audio files.
